I’ve been staying up way too late this week watching the Olympics. Has anyone noticed how many of the athletes prep for their events by blocking out all the chaos with earphones? Several of them can be spotted sitting or stretching as they listen to music (or motivational speeches?) before they skate, ski or snowboard. Most of them have faces of stone. This is an effort for their country, and they’ve been training for years in order to be the very best during the few minutes they have the entire world watching them compete.
Leave it to an American to spice things up a bit. Kate Hansen, Burbank, California native, BYU student and luger for Team USA has been delighting Russian spectators and TV viewers with her dance moves prior to competition earlier in the week. When reporters asked what she listened to in her over-the-ear headphones, she simply replied “Beyoncé. All the time.”
Despite her hip hop dance moves, young Kate didn’t medal in Sochi. Let’s get her a pair of Westone Adventure Series earphones to wear while she trains over the next four years and I predict we’ll see her on the podium in 2018.
