This week Westone endorsed artist Juan De Hoyos will have you concentrate on your picking hand. This free guitar lesson, #5 in the Tricks for Your Licks series, will show you a cool exercise and a helpful lick that will help everyone who asked for advice on mobilizing your other fingers instead of just using a pick. Get your fingers ready to play!
Start with your B string and pluck, then take your pointer finger and hammer onto the seventh fret. Your third finger is going to hammer onto the ninth fret. Then hit the open E with your pick. Watch the video above to see the rest of the lesson and be sure to practice with Juan a few times a day to perfect your new guitar licks.
Many of you have asked for details on the gorgeous McPherson Guitar you see in the video lessons every week, so I asked Juan for the specs. “The guitar has a Red Spruce top with Pao Rosa back and sides. Pao Rosa is an exotic species of Rosewood,” Juan excitedly shared. “And all the black that you see on the guitar from the headstock to the binding to the bridge and the neck is ebony wood. The 12th fret has a Koa wood inlay that only comes on the Camrielle Series McPherson Guitar models. This guitar came with Waverly tuners and is loaded with a Fishman Matrix Infinity pick up.” Very sweet.
